Exciting and New innovational approaches to art and painting in China

Beijing 2008 Olympic Games has only stimulate interest in sport, also have a renewed interest in the rich cultural heritage of China. As in the 18th and 19th centuries, all things are more eastern become "fashionable."

This renewed interest must have been particularly evident in many Western artists who over the years immersed in the paintings and sculptures of ancient Chinese teachers, and in most cases are still trying to create something that looks like its tranquility and beauty essential for them.

Every artist knows what important is the study of the techniques used by the best painters of the past, research to discover how they achieved their masterpieces. Hopefully artists Modern equally aware of the need to be aware of the trends to date, new materials and developments.

In order to know exactly how art in China is growing and what is new here, I speak of the artist, Tom Zhang, who is the atmosphere and the landscapes are now difficult to find their way into private collections worldwide the most demanding buyers.

Since its inception, this young man knew he wanted to paint, it was determined, despite all obstacles, to leave their mark in this field. As a child in her parents' farm in Shandong his days were spent weeding between rows of vegetables. At night, he painted, winning at the age of 8 years at a price in an open competition. Even then, his skill and imagination was ahead of his age. Her piece, based on the traditional story the Monkey King, has challenged all others and won.

At 17 she moved to Beijing carrying the princely sum 700 yuan (equivalent to £ 50) offered by an uncle, and nothing else – other than high hopes for the future. He said that not seeking capital, a mere opportunity to develop as an artist.

Finally, management of the funds himself through the University in 2003 working in restaurant kitchens, car parks, and museums, its artistic future is indeed, now assured. Two of his teachers were well-known Chinese artists: Wang Ming Wang Ming Fang and the prime minister. Tom told me how grateful he is for them to present a different approach to its work and provide an opportunity to incorporate new ideas. In addition to these teachers, who found his opportunity to experiment and develop their own unique perspective on traditional Chinese painting.

Now 28, he saw his painting. He has recently branched murals / frescos in bars and restaurants, the latest Happy Dragon Bar in Beijing

Tom Gallery and studio are located near Tiananmen Square in a traditional neighborhood in the independent Hutong Hostel Leo now appears in the Lonely Planet Guide to Beijing. The gallery Ideally situated on a busy street with typical Chinese food stalls, a restaurant of the opera Beijing, small shops and restaurants.

However, despite his gallery Tom travels frequently occupied by China, the exhibition installation and continues to paint its spectacular scenery or take up images that are then translated back into pictures in their gallery. He painted many regions of China: Xian, Nanjing, Yunnan and Shangri-La which is near the border of Nepal and Tibet, and the east coast of China.

On his return to Beijing, he likes to chat with people visiting their gallery and tourists staying at the hostel. He is happy to demonstrate their methods and philosophy to explain. In the back of the Gallery is a space that serves tea to potential customers.

Last year, a breakthrough in its development when invited to exhibit in Europe. First place in the prestigious gallery MétemorphOZes Domaine du Prieuré Valaire, then a solo exhibition at Tours. Both exhibitions have been extremely successful and later traveled to Paris, where painted his "Paris by Night", using for the first time I tend to think their "fusion" style of painting.

Tom explains: "The traditional landscape painting of the West, unlike the Chinese style of painting requires a unified perspective, that does not use realistic shadows. Western art almost always represented as light and uses the shadow falls. Traditional Chinese painting requires that the effects are good ink, the composition is good, design is good art. But perspective is not the most important part of painting. Now, sometimes I like to use a little shade, it adds depth, shifting the tradition.

But he believes that experimentation before Western artists should understand the basics of what makes a good Chinese landscape. Hua Shan Shui uses speech as reflected by the mountains, water image. The essay must be elongated a Z or S shape and symmetry should be a right and left branch from the center. Many of his paintings are large and square but also moves the paint, fans and small images captured by the buyers and Chinese tourists. "The paper must be complete, he said," but it is important to balance the space with the painting area. Talk of black as the bones of his paintings, while the color is the flesh. Sometimes you feel a topic has only bone so does any other color. Your choice depends on how he felt about what the painting. "Most importantly," he says, is that a good Chinese painting is the essence of his subject.

You should use your mind to see an image correctly. You need to look at a painting and thought riding, mountain or water. It should not be like a photograph, leave room for a bit of imagination should lead to feelings. "He said he thinks that his pictures show the relationship between thought and existence and spirit and matter. "They have to be realistic because the paint contains the essence of its object, is real."

Again He cites a tradition Chinese proverb: "The personality determines the quality of the paint.

The first time I began to paint the paper said he used traditional natural raw rice, but found this type of paper can be used for certain colors and limited what he could do with his painting. Now, he prefers Xuan paper and Jingxian Xuanchen made in the province of Anhui. It is soft and the texture and tensile resistance to insects, it absorbs the ink or paint uniformly and good for long storage. Paste is made from rice straw, tree bark, and bamboo. His extensive collection of brushes can vary in size, shape and material and bristles are used depending on what he paints. Some made of wolf fur, wool, bear hair, horse hair and hair of the mouse. It even has a brush first baby hair!

Unlike the Chinese paintings, using bright colors that he describes in his work clothes and pictures of beautiful colors in how some people must be dressed in fine clothes. His way of using color is well illustrated in one of his latest projects. It is what he called China Red of the series. These paintings are inspired by the red walls in the Forbidden City in Beijing and temples. Red China considered a lucky color, if at the same time that the royal family and temples were allowed to use. Red was a symbol of authority, can be a part of Chinese culture.

Today, Chinese families use color red for good luck, especially during the Chinese New Year celebration. They use red lanterns and decorations, give money and gifts in envelopes with a dress red dress red or a jacket. Many people use red in your front door to bring good luck.

And talking about good luck. Tom feels that he has been lucky his life because whenever he was in a difficult situation that anyone returned to help pursue his painting. He also believes that those who work hard and have hearts eventually reach its goal. "This is a Chinese tradition," he said. His goal is not making money, but he despises. He wants people to understand his philosophy and their own understanding of the subject, when they look at their tables. Your need is the development of his work into something totally individual and recognized internationally as Tom Zhang.
