The first dragon
Have you ever been curious about the first ever dragon? Where was he have a name? I know I was. Also I realized that would be established in the history of dragon first. Since travel time beyond even me. It was then that I decided to make some surf, so a lot of surfing and lots of reading, as it happened. Yes, I even touched the hard copy.
At first, I was satisfied immediately, as I'm sure many have been before me. Many websites I went to all said the same … my search is over … was Anzu of Babylon, also known as Zu, c.1st Millennium BC From "Ninurta vs. Anzu" or "The Myth of Anzu. I read the descriptions, and except for some minor variations, Next: Body and the head of a lion, wings of an eagle (I knew there were eagles in Babylon), razor sharp claws, beak a bird with teeth and soldier on silver chest. For me it was a bit disappointing. I do not know about you, but I like Anzu more than a tap with a dragon. As I'm sure you will agree to the Representation from Babylon to the right. I also noticed a lot of copying and pasting data between the activity of many sites. So I decided to look more and then actually from the original story, as translated from Babylonian clay tablets. At no time, Anzu is seen as a dragon. In another article of Babylon, is actually called Anzu bird. In the Sumerian text of British Columbia, 3rd millennium, Anzu was known as the Zu-bird, a mythological creature which at times wrought mischief. From – Gilgamesh, Enkidu and the world out of nothing – (Sumerian): "In its branches, the Anzu bird set his young." As the Babylonians and I are concerned, Anzu not only not the first dragon, but not a dragon at all, and not worth mentioning. I felt I was on the right track, but
I then pushed to further study of the Babylonian text.
My views and opinions on other websites led me to an old "Dragon" in Babylon and Assyrian text, Tiamat, the creator of gods and earth. c.2nd millennium BC From the "Enuma Elish" or "The Seven Tablets of Creation". The fact that Tiamat is a dragon is not clear. In fact, it has about as many detractors as it does supporters. It is often described as a type of sea dragon snake. Except for the fact she had given birth to dragons and a host of other creatures;
"She set up vipers and dragons, and the monster Lahamu,
And the fury of hurricanes and dogs, and scorpion-men,
And powerful storms, and fish-men and rams;
They had been cruel weapons, without fear of fighting.
His orders were brave, no one could resist them;
After this manner, huge in stature, it made eleven [kinds of] monsters.
the descriptive data in the story makes a request on the fact of his being a dragon. In fact, a woman held in the text and referred to her lips. The following are all Parts description in the text of the Enuma Elish Tiamat:
First: (1 tablet)
Tiamut up on a flutter
Next: (Tablet 2)
Tiamat, a woman is armed and assaulted you.
… joy and gladness;
The neck of Tiamat thou trample under their feet quickly.
… joy and gladness;
Next: (Tablet 4)
However, Tiamat … , She did not turn his neck,
For lips that are not words rebel said:
Next: (Tablet 4)
Tiamat opened her mouth to its size,
Next: (Tablet 4)
He picked up lance and began his belly
Next: (Tablet 4)
And the Lord was upon subsequent Tiamat
Tiamat, a dragon? That will leave for you. I can not find enough evidence in the ancient text to support the fact, but I can not find enough to rule. But as for the first Dragon, I can not refuse. (For those who like the creation myths, but his story is the creation myth for the first time in the history of writing!)
I was scratching my head. Here was deeply in the world that the Greeks called Mesopotamia, the cradle of the Babylonians and Assyrians, the cradle of civilization and writing, but where is my dragon! That was when I was in my head. The region may have been the birthplace of writing, but this was not the Babylonians or Assyrians who were the parents, who were, but students Meir … Sumerian! Mesopotamia, Sumer was more than two thousand years! Then head to Sumeria!
And there I found! The Dragon First, writes about people and the first story in Dragon Slayer, and the first cuneiform written language!
KUR
3rd millennium BC Sumer C.
"Since the killing of a dragon theme was a major in the Sumerian mythology of the third millennium BC, it is not unreasonable to assume that thread A number in the texture Dragon Tales Greek and early Christian goes back to Sumerian sources. "
Samuel Noah Kramer, Sumerian Mythology, 1944
"Samuel Noah Kramer spent most of his life studying this literature, collection of clay tablets in distant museums. "
Sumerian Mythology, 1944, revised 1961
Kur speaks of three myths of Columbia British 4 to 3 Goals (Tiamat more than a millennium before!) In the prologue as an introduction the epic tale "Gilgamesh, Enkidu and the World of Nothing" (written eight tablets – seven excavated in Nippur and Ur), where Enki, god of water, Kur fighting after he learned that the goddess Ereshkigal was taken violently in the other world, by Kur. Enki Kur fought a boat and battled fiercely with stones Kur of all sizes, boat and attacked Enki with the primeval waters, he controlled. Unfortunately for us, the author of this story is so eager to do the Epic of Gilgamesh story did not end the dragon part, and leaves us hanging. Certainly, Enki wins because it is in the rest of the poem is not the Kur.
Seeing something familiar Damsel in distress, knight comes to the rescue and kills the dragon.
The second version of the murder-of-the-dragon myth can be found in "The achievements and the exploits of Ninurta. (49 tablets) A major release, due to the fact that it has evidently been used by anti-Semitic writers in creating the myth Tiamat the Babylonian creation.
In this version, Ninurta, the warrior god, is the hero of the story. His weapon Sharur personified, in a speech kisses extending praising the qualities and heroic deeds of Ninurta to convince him to seek Kur, and attach and destroy. What cons Sharur Kur is not written in the text that is available. Ninurta remains to be done as requested, but do not have it and "fled like a bird." Sharur however, will not let go and speaking, Ninurta reassuring and encouraging with their words. "Ninurta now attacks Kur fiercely with all the weapons at his disposal, and Kur is completely destroyed."
Things Fall Apart thereafter. The primordial waters of another world that Kur was in control back to the surface so violently that fresh water can reach fields and gardens. The gods of the land in charge of irrigation and cultivation, are desperate. Le Tigre is not as usual flood and river water is unfit for use.
"The famine was severe, has not occurred,
The small rivers were not cleaned, the dirt was not removed,
In the farm fields were not irrigated water, no trenching,
In all countries there are no crops, grass grown.
Then God puts his high spirit
Ninurta son of Enlil, brings great things to be. "
Ninurta piled stones into Corpse Kur, and continued to grow until there is a large wall in front of the earth. The wall is safe and keeps the troubled waters primitives (rushing water) to stop water areas with the lowest (less the world) the increased area of land. Ninurta met water that had inundated the land and lead them into the Tigris. Who is now a greater flow of water and fields.
"What had dispersed, which met
What had dissipated by Kur, guided and thrown into the Tigris,
The high water is poured onto the farmland. "
The third version of the murder-of-the-dragon myth can be found in "Inanna and Ebihara. One hundred and eighty-line poem. (12 tablets)
The dragon slayer in this version of history is a goddess, Inanna, curiously named the goddess of love and, as the goddess of battle and fight, (must have been married) and also mentioned in many Sumerian hymns as "The Destroyer of Kur." Kur is also known as the "mountain" in the poem. Did I mention that Kur was also the first fire-breathing dragon?
, The poem begins with a long passage extolling the virtues of Inanna. It is followed by a long speech of Inanna a deity (the principal of the Sumerian pantheon). (In the third millennium. But BC, Enlil, god of air, and instead had Resp. By placing the following in the Columbia British Millennium 's) The meaning of his speech is sometimes difficult to understand his attitude is clear: either Kur, which seems to ignore, or perhaps unconscious, power, extols his virtues, and became obedient, you will do violence to this monster. It's part of his threat:
"The long spear in her draft,
Referral stick, gun, I go directly against him,
In neighboring forests open fire
In her. . . I'll wear the bronze ax,
All the water as Gibil (the god of fire), I dry the purifier,
As the mountain Aratta, I will remove your anxiety,
As a city cursed by some, will not be restored,
Like (a city) which leads to Enlil, who does not rise. "
A reacts to give a detailed explanation of all Kurs damage he has done against the gods:
"Against the Gods permanent location that has turned its terror
Instead of meeting the Anunnaki has led to continued fear
Its terrible fear has precipitated on the earth,
The "mountain", its rays of terrible fire, against all lands .
It continues with a description Kurs power and wealth, Inanna and warns against attack. But Inanna discouraging word heard in years. Full of anger and rage, he opened the house "the battle, carried arms and AIDS and attacks and destroys Kur. Then herself in Kur stations, and delivers a hymn of self-glorification.
So there you have it, the history of dragon first given to us by the Sumerians.
From the book to Sumerian mythology:
"The Sumerians were a Semitic, not Indo-European who has lived in the south of Babylon, from 4000-3000 BC They invented cuneiform, and their spiritual beliefs influenced all successive Middle Eastern religions, including Judaism, Christianity and Islam. "
In conclusion, let me say that the Sumerians gave us in writing that gave us culture, but above all they gave us dragons. Give them a break.
