How to Evaluate Colored Gemstone
Although most people think only diamonds are classified, there are a number of criteria to evaluate the colored gems. They are summarized in an evaluation report. The value of a gem depends largely on its color. Here are the basics you need to understand from a stone color grading report.
To understand color, remember that there are three primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and three secondary colors that are the result mixing the primary colors (purple, orange, green). Nature shows often superior colors like red, orange, yellow, purple, green or blue, which are of a color Primary mixed with a secondary color. When a color is mixed with gray, white or black, we need the (overlapping) definitions of saturation, hue and color.
Saturation expresses the attribute of undermining the depth perception of gray. If a stone is all gray, it would be appropriate to have zero saturation. Nature can produce 100% saturation, but if I could, had 0% gray. In general, the higher the percentage of saturation is the most expensive will be the jewel.
The tone is the actual color seen as red, purple, yellow, green, etc. In these conditions, white, black and gray have no tint. Some colors like red, pink and blue, are (now) is considered more valuable others (eg, yellow or purple). What has been and continues to change with fashion, over time and across cultures.
A color mixed with the white is called a tint. A tone is lighter and less saturated than its original color. In general, the less color the better the color, the higher the price. The exceptions are the sapphires Padparadscha, Rhodolite and cornflower blue sapphires are precisely characterized by the combination of tone and nuance.
To describe a color technically, one could rightly say, as an example, blue (the color) mixed with 20% gray (saturation) and a little yellow mixed with white pile (). "These descriptions are difficult to predict and not very attractive. Therefore, professionals use color more illustrious names like "Ivy Green," cornflower blue "or" salmon orange "in connection with attributes like" strong "or" alive. "Because these color names to refer to something common and express the natural color in a more accessible.
For the evaluation of gemstones, saturation, tint and hue are summarized in two criteria called degree of color and tone. The color paper describes the main color fastness, compared with other colors visible on the stone. A 100% blue code, for example, involves no other colors (like purple or violet) are visible on the stone. If there is no gray stone, saturation us 100% quality with 100% color, but this stone was never found. Some varieties (eg Padaparadscha) and defined by a combination of primary colors (eg pink and orange), will receive a note high color purity of color combined with the main meaning that no other colors like brown. Generally the rule applies: the purer the color the more high degree. However, the grade is nothing without tone.
Any degree of color must be seen in conjunction with the tone. Timbre varies from "very mild" to "Very dark. The amount of mixed black and white. At each end, a stone color can be white (light 5) or black (Dark 95) with just a touch of color. Single note and tone together describe the color value is sufficient. A stone might, for example, show fairly pure blue, green or purple self, but can be a very light tone by what blue is less strong. Or the opposite could be a dark tone, which is black rather than blue. The colored gemstones with high levels of light and medium to medium-reach dark tones to higher prices. Grade and tone are developed through the application of zoning terms of color, clarity, brightness and depth.
Zoning color colors describes how certain rocks are shown as parts or layers. To describe the intensity of this common adverse effect, but in general, we use four levels:
1.non: The color is evenly distributed
2.Faint: We may see changes in color saturation
3.Gradual: The color is deteriorating in some areas but not abruptly.
4.Visible: spots of stone or color layers.
Other than light, which is a 10x objective, the Color zoning is described only insofar as it is visible to the naked eye.
The clarity of a stone can vary from "free Includes" to the "excessive included. Free inclusions indicated that even under 10x magnification without inclusions are visible. A light show included stone inclusions visible in increased 10x, but rarely in the eyes nu. Moderately included may have inclusions visible to the naked eye. However, do not dominate the stone. In a widely understood stone, inclusions are clearly visible and affect the appearance of the stone. If a stone is placed too inclusive, may be defective is no longer sustainable.
Luster is the light of a stone reflect an estimated peak position in the spotlight. High gloss, among others, the result Cup qualifications.
The depth is the height of a stone, divided by its minimum width. "Ideal" is between 60% and 80%. This is mainly determined by the particular form of the raw stone. If the percentage depth is less than 50%, the stone can be called superficial. A shallow stone with a light tone is difficult to maintain saturation. A rock with a depth of 90% and a dark tone on the other side is black – out.
Brightness and depth are linked to the degree the "cut", which also includes the quality and General Work precision cutting and finishing of stone. Here, a dealer also mentioned other defects or deficiencies in relation to the court.
All quality parameters are summarized in an overall score. If you want to keep things simple you just look at the overall score that is described in five levels:
oExcellent: Well above average and no defects. This quality is seldom seen in jewelry and is more often purchased by collectors or investors in the long term.
Overy Good: Above average in all criteria with one or two minor defects.
oGood: average quality, with strengths and weaknesses
air space: average quality with one or two obvious gaps
oPoor: serious deficiencies
