Two Chinese

Two Chinese

The Chinese name for China is Zhongguo, meaning Middle Country. Here, people often ask me why 'their' Zhongguo is called China by Laowai (foreigners). I explain how each culture or language have different names for other countries. For example, the Chinese name for India is "Yindu '- enough near, but not the same; U.S. Meiguo called a little different, and so on. A smile lights up the knowledge of their faces.

There are many similarities Between India and China. When my stories were published in China in a magazine and more later in a book, my readers and editor, in particular, stunned by how a "foreigner" can understand China and China while. I think this happened because I, in the true Hindu spirit, was willing to accept and not judge. Apart from that, I think, there are many similarities between the two former neighbors.

China has a history as old as India – or almost, anyway. For thousands of years, share a long common border and perfected the art of peaceful coexistence, with the exception of this case in 1962. Otherwise, there has never been violence between the two peoples. Yes, there were invasions from the north or northwest by Mongols. However, the Mongols were different from the majority Han Chinese and came from northern China. The Chinese never invaded India and Indians never invaded China. However, most of the twentieth century we had the Asian equivalent of the U.S. and the USSR in the Cold War. Thank you, politics!

On the philosophical plane, Hinduism and Taoism are quite similar. Such as Hinduism, Taoism believes in the essential unity of all creation, and stresses on meditation as a means to achieve this accomplishment. Confucianism, a later religion, however, is more reality-oriented material and teaches how to conduct himself better in society. Buddhism, however, was brought to India by the Chinese who came and studied religion and then carried with them important scriptures, books and literature on religion. India or its leaders do not need to send missionaries and crusaders in China to spread Buddhism.

The Chinese were probably the most ingenious of all ancient cultures and a very many inventions such as paper, printing, the compass, gunpowder, the wheelbarrow, the clock and so on were of Chinese origin.

Interestingly, there was a difference that struck me repeatedly. I found the Chinese very practical and earthly. Indians on the other hand, tend to be more spiritual and cerebral, if desired, dealing with abstract concepts and ideas, for example, calculate the distance from Earth to the Sun and so on. This course is a very general observation and does not mean that all forms of India and China in the mold.

Perhaps China is like the left hemisphere brain and India, to the right! Together, they are complete and effective. Today, China is becoming the factory of the world and India, the back called "office". I think it's a matter of time before that India will become the factory or laboratory of ideas in the world.

China and India will become the center of the world in a manner speaking, the medium countries! The world will be, again, the need in Asia and look to her as it did centuries ago!
